Stonehewer Giant is possibly my favorite card out of Morningtide. As a 5-drop he’s far more balanced than the now infamous Stoneforge Mystic, despite the fact he constantly searches and throws equipment onto your creatures, eliminating even the necessity of paying equip costs. However, as he hasn’t been in standard in a very long time, I prefer to use him in my mono-white Kemba, Kha Regent Commander deck, alongside Stoneforge Mystic for my equipment tutoring. He’s a great card in EDH, 5 mana not being difficult to get to, and was a good card even in Standard when it was legal. They still go for 3-5 USD these days, so don’t have too many qualms about picking him up, he’s worth it.

While I was doing a little research for my Dungrove Elder review, I stumbled across a card I haven’t seen in a long time from Morningtide (Lorwyn and Morningtide sure gave the world plenty of fun Treefolk cards). It’s a 2/10 for 4 mana. That’s right, a card with TEN toughness! Not only is this incredibly good with Doran as your Commander in EDH (hello, 10/10 beater), but anything with 10 toughness is pretty ridiculous. Obviously it will probably meet its fate with a Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, or similar removal, but this isn’t really the kind of card you want to see hitting the board. There are some silly combos you could pull with this card. If you have Timber Protector from Lorwyn, which would make him a 3/11 and indestructible, then he becomes almost playable. He’s not a great as a rare, but he’s hardly one to overlook completely.
