I’ve decided that I’m going to take a short break from reviewing New Phyrexia. Really, I just wanted to review this little mythic rare from Scars of Mirrodin.
Obviously, what you want to open from Scars block drafts for your mythic rare is a Koth, Elspeth, or Venser. There are a couple of others that are decent Limited plays, and honestly, Lux Cannon is not really THAT horrible a card. Tap it to put a charge counter on it, then when you accumulate three charge counters, tap it and blow something off the board. Naturally, you can use proliferate effects to increase the counters.
There’s only one issue with this card. It’s a MYTHIC rare, and considering there are obviously far better removal options available, it’s really not worth the mythic slot. It’s one of those cards that Wizards just felt was too good to be a rare. It’s a 4 drop, which is kind of lousy for any sort of removal card. If it were a 1 drop or 2 drop or even 3 drop, like a Tumble Magnet, that started with at least a counter or two on it, then maybe I’d see this being worthy of mythic rare status. All in all, it’s another mythic rare for the trade binder that looks awesome in foil.
