Gideon, Champion of Justice
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve written about Magic the Gathering. But when I saw this card pop up in the Gatecrash spoilers, I just HAD to say something about it. It’s already pre-ordering for $25, which I’m not sure will be his final value, but I think this card is one of the best planeswalkers I’ve ever seen.
His +1 is utterly ridiculous, ESPECIALLY in EDH! Against the right opponent, if there’s no removal to be had for this guy, he exiles EVERYTHING. On top of that, if he still has loyalty counters on him, he’s going to be dealing damage! Obviously, this guy is an easy target if someone has enough creatures to get through to him. At the very least, he’ll force your opponent to attack him! However, it’s his 0 ability that is what makes him so good. You can make this guy a big indestructible baddie with that middle ability. So while his ultimate is absolutely ridiculous, that’s just icing on the cake as far as this guy’s concerned.
I want this guy! In EDH, he’s just absurd. I’m so far out of touch with the current meta-game though that I don’t know exactly how well he’ll work in Standard. He’s just so good!
Not sure if I’ll be doing too many more spoilers… but I KNOW there’s one other card that has Win Target Game written all over it. Literally.
